ParaShoot fully supports Codex High Density Encoding (HDE) workflows. Because Codex Device Manager handles HDE through a "virtual" volume system, ParaShoot automates the connection between your physical media and the encoded files to ensure a seamless offload experience.
1. Visibility and Workflow Selection
In the ParaShoot Card Menu, the virtual _hde volume is intentionally hidden. You will always interact with the actual physical camera card (e.g., A001).
However, ParaShoot’s behavior depends entirely on the presence of the HDE volume:
If HDE is Enabled (Codex Device Manager): ParaShoot detects the virtual _hde volume and will strictly offload HDE files. It assumes that if the volume exists, you intend to use it.
If HDE is Disabled: ParaShoot reads directly from the physical card and offloads standard ARRIRAW files.
Important: If you see HDE filenames (e.g., _h or .arx) but prefer to offload standard ARRIRAW, you must disable HDE in the Codex Device Manager preferences first. Once the virtual _hde volume unmounts from your system, ParaShoot will revert to standard ARRIRAW offloading.
2. Automatic Filename Translation
When offloading via HDE, the filenames arriving at the destination will differ slightly from the source names on the physical card. This is expected behavior controlled by the Codex Device Manager to comply with ARRI naming specifications.
ParaShoot preserves these changes to ensure the files are correctly identified by post-production software:
MXF/ARRIRAW (ALEXA 35, Mini LF): The Codec Identifier character in the filename changes to reflect the specific format.
_a stands for ARRIRAW (Standard).
_h stands for HDE (High Density Encoding).
Example: A physical file named A001...a1DB2.mxf will be offloaded as A001...h1DB2.mxf.
Legacy ARRIRAW: The file extension changes from .ari to .arx.
Summary
Default Behavior: If ParaShoot detects an _hde volume, it enforces an HDE backup.
To Offload Standard ARRIRAW: You must disable HDE in the Codex Device Manager before starting the offload.
Select the Source: Always select the physical card in ParaShoot; the software automatically routes the data based on your Codex settings.
